Why do we have a vision plan?

In recent years numerous strategic plans, visioning documents, and goals have been developed and updated by cities and organizations across the county. With so many separate entities and documents, a need for enhanced communication and a shared vision throughout the county was identified. Created with input from stakeholders across the county, the first edition of the county vision plan was developed with the intent of fostering communication, focusing community development efforts, and creating one comprehensive vision for the “great place” of Pocahontas County, Iowa. We are now working to update the vision plan and are seeking input from residents, workers, and visitors of Pocahontas County.

Our county vision plan will be submitted with our application for Pocahontas County to be designated as an Iowa Great Place.

What is the Iowa Great Places Program?

The Iowa Great Places program seeks to recognize communities taking action to enhance their local places while staying true to the qualities that make them unique. Designated communities have demonstrated a vision that values their assets while challenging themselves to set realistic goals for advancing their quality of life.
